Pam Mahon

Pam Mahon grew up in Guilford, Connecticut, with her two sisters and brother. Pam’s mother, who passed away in 2001, taught her children kindness, patience and compassion and her father instilled in them a fierce work ethic. Her sister Debi and brother Shelden, along with her husband and children, are her biggest supporters and best friends. Pam attended schools in the Guilford Public School System. She remembers that her 2nd-grade classroom did not include any children with special needs, which was typical of classrooms in the early 1970’s. Pam volunteered at this young age to be a lunch buddy to a group of children from a self-contained classroom. In hindsight, these memorable experiences greatly affected her chosen profession.
Pam received her occupational therapy training at Quinnipiac University, graduating in 1988. She was trained to assist children with disabilities to maximize their potential regarding motor skills and independence.
After completing her 3rd internship at ACES (Area Cooperative Educational Services), Pam was hired and assigned to Branford and other surrounding school districts. She also holds a supervisory position at ACES, assisting and guiding other occupational therapists at Extension Therapy Services. In the past, Pam administered occupational therapy services in the Birth-to-Three system (prior to school age), where she provided support to very young children and their families in their own homes. Her current job consists of providing occupational therapy services to make students successful, independent and comfortable in their surroundings. Pam has provided support to families by accompanying them to doctor’s appointments and volunteering at various fundraisers to benefit their organizations. She continues to spend her own time finding local resources that her students can benefit from. Pam has a particular interest in the area of feeding therapy and has sought out extensive training, which has facilitated positive change for many families.
Pam has had the privilege of being employed by ACES for over 26 years and has always felt consistently valued and supported by her colleagues and administrators. Laura Evangelist played a significant role in creating such a positive and effective environment, which Pam and many others have benefited from.
Pam and her husband of 25 years, Jim, moved to Branford in 1990. They have two daughters. Emili is finishing her Master’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education at UCONN and Kaylee is a sophomore studying Veterinary Technology at Mount Ida College. Pam enjoys reading, baking and spending time with family and friends. She is very honored to receive this award.
