Peter Borgemeister
Peter Borgemeister has been a leader in the state for preservation of the environment, from working with the fledgling Madison Land Conservation Trust, saving the Stratford salt meadows from filling and development and then turning to the challenges of preservation of Branford's natural resources, serving on Branford's Inland Wetland Commission and lending his expertise to the Branford Land Trust.
He has been a vital and energizing part of the Branford Land Trust, serving in the past as its president and as a continuing member of the land acquisition committee and as an advisor. His colleagues seek his advice, for his council is taken from his years of experience and his interest in communicating and educating us all on land issues. He has mentored us all, for he is an enthusiastic and tireless educator.
One of Peter's admirers reported that she has been on bird watches, on osprey banding and nesting platform repair/erection work sessions organized by him, has seen him lead attentive kids (and teachers) from the Sound School through our marshes, counting ospreys and pointing out the wonders of our local environment and work with Scouts and high school students on trail maintenance and natural resource inventory. Peter's enthusiasm has stimulated the interest of all the participants.
In addition, Peter has also written wonderful articles for the Land Trust Newsletter and website and maintains a good relationship with the local press corps, helping them understand the importance of Branford's unique environment to our citizens.
We are very pleased to induct Peter Borgemeister into Branford's Education Hall of Fame.
